Pressing Pause: Why I Am Stepping Back from Social Media This Summer
For parents, summer holidays can be a beautifully chaotic juggling act. Work deadlines, childcare demands, and making sure everyone is fed, happy, and (mostly) clean.
This year, I made a conscious decision to ease up on my social media activity. Not because I don’t value it for my business (I absolutely do!) but because I’ve learned that I can’t do everything without burning out. My family needed my time and energy - and honestly, so do I.
One of the highlights? We’ve just come back from our first camping trip as a family of five. It was chaos but, on the whole, a big success. It reminded me of something important: holidays are for making memories, and sometimes the best thing you can do for yourself, and your business, is to unplug.
Of course, there have probably been trade-offs:
Missed marketing opportunities
Slower business growth
A baffled Instagram algorithm
But what I’ve gained far outweighs what I’ve lost:
More laughter
More connection
More living - which is exactly why I became a VA in the first place.
I can’t claim to have perfected the work-life balance (far from it!), but I’m proud to have taken some steps in the right direction.
If you’re feeling the pressure to be on all the time, take this as your gentle reminder that it’s okay to prioritise what matters most. And if you’d like a hand with the things on your plate? Well… that’s where a VA can work wonders.
